International fashion hub, LEGiT Clothing Stores, has launched their new collection with the celebrated South African artist, Toya DeLazy in Namibia.
With her funky
retro sense of style and her edgy attitude resonating through her fashion, it
is no wonder Legit Clothing stores chose to carry a line inspired by South
African singer Toya DeLazy.
But it come as a big surprise for Namibian Legit
shoppers that the line was officially launched in Windhoek. The singer was in
the country to officially launch her Toya DeLazy line at the Town Square Legit
store on Saturday. Toya DeLazy who has a unique and individualistic style says
that fashion is an important aspect of being a music artist.
“Fashion expresses your personality through your
clothes. Artists also use their clothes to make a statement and set trends,”
said the singer.
With a diverse sense of style comprising of leather,
studs, platform sneakers and Lennon glasses it is not surprising considering
Toya admits to having many style influences. “I get inspiration from many
things and people, but one that stands out is Punk and Ivy, a Johannesburg
based menswear clothing brand which specialises in urban ready to wear and
bespoke garments.
As someone who was laughed at and teased when she
was younger because of her outrageous style, Toya was ultra pleased to be
selected as the face of the range. “I was honoured that it was my style they
wanted.”
Head fashion buyer at Legit Hazel Pillay, says the
reason they chose to go with a Toya DeLazy line is because she is fashion
forward and says that is what the Legit customer wants. “For us it is important
to listen to our customers, as to what is relevant and Toya DeLazy is extremely
relevant at the moment. She is the hottest South African artist right now,”
said Pillay.
She highlighted that the reason Legit chose to
launch the line in Windhoek was because the Town Square chain had the highest
sales of all the Legit stores. “Namibians seem to love Legit, they love our
clothes and so we thought this was a way of giving back, we don't always have a
chance to do that out here, so we wanted to bring something big.”
The launch was marked with a fashion show at the
Legit Town Square store.
